Public opinion is a critical force in shaping and transforming society. Properly conducted and disseminated, survey research simultaneously provides the public with information about what others are thinking while allowing their voices to be heard. In this way knowledge of public attitudes and their wide dissemination to the public can be useful in resolving conflicts by making public views widely known. This section provides guidelines for conducting peace polls to analyse violent conflicts and assist parties to find a resolution to those conflicts.
